1 2004 Annual NAFSA Conference FBIE-SIG Presentation www.isp.msu.edu/oiss/fbie Foreign Born International Educator SIG Open Meeting 2004 NAFSA 56th Annual Conference, Baltimore Tuesday, May 26 11:30 p.m. - 12:45 p.m. FBIE SIG Mission Statement The FBIE-SIG strives to provide a forum for NAFSA members to advocate for policy and regulation changes to remove obstacles for current and future foreign-born international education professionals, to serve and support foreign born international educators' professional entry and development, and to promote foreign-born standpoints and perspectives to enrich NAFSA programs and services.

5 2004 Annual NAFSA Conference FBIE-SIG Presentation www.isp.msu.edu/oiss/fbie WHAT IS FBIE-SIG?: FUTURE… SUPPORT & ADVOCACY Supporting FBIE’s career advancement in various venues of international education (i.e. not just CAFSS) and thinking openly about ways we can impact international students and/or international education Through regional and state level sessions on various career paths we have entered and grown Through mentoring program for FBIEs Identifying, promoting, and utilizing FBIE strengths and advantages that advance the state of international education Identify FBIE advantages in each of the functional areas Demonstrate these advantages through research, survey, and/or projects Market these advantages through sessions in Seattle and through FBIEs in NAFSA leadership positions

Submit application to SIG Coordinator, who will appoint them in June 04 Coordinator-elect-elect is elected by members in May-June 05

8 2004 Annual NAFSA Conference FBIE-SIG Presentation www.isp.msu.edu/oiss/fbie FBIE COMMITTEES Advocacy & Member Survey Committee This committee develops, implements membership surveys and publishes an annual report. In addition, as member surveys identify key FBIE-related highlights and/or issues, the committee will carry out the advocacy effort to NAFSA leadership. Member Outreach Committee Member Outreach Committee recruits new members and organize social events during a NAFSA National Conference. Mentoring Program Committee This committee designs, promotes, and facilitates FBIE Mentoring Program at the national conference during the Open SIG meeting.

9 2004 Annual NAFSA Conference FBIE-SIG Presentation www.isp.msu.edu/oiss/fbie FBIE COMMITTEES Program Committee This committee generates program ideas and solicits session proposals for NAFSA regional and national conferences. Committee members are encouraged to organize and facilitate FBIE-SIG open meetings at their respective regional conference. Publicity & Communications Committee The committee develops an overall promotional strategy for the SIG. This committee also develops newsletter, pamphlets or booklets to be disseminated via print and electronic media.
