The Righteous - Psalm 1:1-3 1 Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;

Who do you listen to? Ps. 1:1 "Blessed" = "How very happy!"

Who do you listen to? Ps. 1:1..."Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly..." _____________________ We are not to live our lives following the advice of ungodly people

Who do you listen to? Ps. 1:1 "...Nor stands in the path of sinners..." ___________________ Seeking them out instead of God's wisdom

Who do you listen to? Ps. 1:1 "...Nor sits in the seat of the scornful..." ___________________ A progression (regression?) to more and more time with people more and more foolish

Principle #1 The person who chooses to follow God's direction over any other will enjoy a full life.

Principle #2 A wise person knows to whom they should listen... And the need to know who and what they should ignore!

Who do you listen to? Ps. 1:2 "But his delight is in the law of the LORD" __________________________________ "delight" A commitment of the pleasure that arises from the value we see in the wisdom of God

Who do you listen to? Ps. 1:2 "And in His law he meditates day and night" ____________________ If we believe God's word tells us the best way to live, why not?

Principle #3 We spend time in the Word because it is the best source of advice; the most relevant book on earth.

Who do you listen to? Ps. 1:3 "He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water..."

Principle #4 Listening to God's word brings stability to our lives _______________________ That's a real reality show!

Principle #5 There is a timing to productivity ____________________________________ Time and maturity are critical in life

Who do you listen to? Ps. 1:3 "...Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper..."

Principle #6 Prosperity comes to the righteous Remember...

Principle #6 1. It comes "in it's season..." 2. What the godly person does is controlled by God's law. __________________________________________________________________ We meditate, we act accordingly, and our action will come to their divinely directed fulfillment.

The Wicked Ps. 1:4 "The ungodly are not so, But are like the chaff which the wind drives away"

Principle #7 The life of those who choose to not listen to God's counsel is unstable.

The end of the wicked Ps. 1:5 "Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment..."

Principle #8 Their choices and instability lead the ungodly reap the consequences of their choices.

Who do you listen to? Ps. 1:5 "...Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous."

Principle #9 If we choose not to listen to God, we won't enjoy fellowship of the wise nor the blessing of rejoicing together at the goodness of God.

Who do you listen to? Ps. 1:6 For the LORD knows the way of the righteous, But the way of the ungodly shall perish.

Principle #10 There is an enduring value to a life of wisdom, but following bad advice will lead to a life of ruin.

Did you notice? The Psalms are all songs! The beginning Psalm reminds us that it is truth in the song, not simply the tune, that is to excite our hearts.

Did you notice? Ever find yourself enjoying a song that has a ridiculous or even sinful message?

Imagine there's no Heaven It's easy if you try No hell below us Above us only sky Imagine all the people Living for today Imagine there's no countries It isn't hard to do Nothing to kill or die for And no religion too Imagine all the people Living life in peace

You may say that I'm a dreamer But I'm not the only one I hope someday you'll join us And the world will be as one (repeat at end) Imagine no possessions I wonder if you can No need for greed or hunger A brotherhood of man Imagine all the people Sharing all the world
