Eurostat – DIME/ITDG SG 18 of Novemeber – item 14 Unit B3: IT for statistical production Unit G5: Goods – production and international trade 1

2 Why SIMSTAT - Principles
Creation of an additional data source by making the exchange of micro-data on intra-EU exports among Member States compulsory Strongly simplify the reporting requirements for MS on the import side. MS may decide to what extent these data are used together with other sources in the compilation of the imports Enhance the quality of statistical information on the export side. In addition, this will work as an enabler for countries to reduce their surveys on the intra-EU import side

3 Pilot Exchange A pilot exchange of trader-level micro-data on intra-EU exports took place during the period April 2015 – October 20 Member States participated in the pilot exchange During this period the participating MSs exchanged micro- data for the reference period: 2013, 2014 and January – August 2015 (32 months). Revisions of the monthly data were also exchanged

9 SIMSTAT – Next steps Some MSs will continue exchanging micro-data on voluntary basis after the end of the pilot 3 new MSs requested for CCN connection Performance of the system will be improved further, in particular: Automatic transmission notification Transmission of additional data
