3 New questions on children’s use of mental health services Funded by Center for Mental Health Services, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) Input from staff at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) Fielded in NHIS Sample Child Questionnaire in 2005 Questions asked of parents or a person who knows about the child’s health

4 Content of the new questions A parent seeing or talking to a health care provider or school staff about the child’s emotional or behavioral health The child receiving prescription medicine for an emotional or behavioral difficulty The child receiving prescription medicine specifically for difficulties with concentration, hyperactivity or impulsivity
