LAN Drop boxes MDF This contains the patch panel, switch panel, router & server… That connects to WAN Clients (PC’s & Printer’s) Because cables can not reach throughout the entire school, IDF’s have to be placed throughout to support the clients in the entire school. 6. Northgate High School Media Center Northgates Media Center houses the tech room that supplies the MDF for the school. The MDF feeds the IDF’s through out the school. There are 25 student network computers, 2 circulation computers, 2 media specialist’s computers and 2 printers that are on the network. Here are some things I’ve learned about from this project. I’ve learned about patch panels, switch panels, routers, servers, the difference between LAN & WAN, network clients and the different types of cables. I learned that this type of set up is a topography setup. The only thing I am lacking is exactly where the IDF’s are located in the rest of the school (I’m supposed to meet with someone to find this out), but I do know there are between 6 or 7 in the school.
