3 Objectives  This workshop will give you 1. Essential and optional components of a résumé. 2. Why and how to tailor résumé to employer's needs. 3. How to create powerful accomplishment statements. 4. Differences between chronological and functional résumés. 5. How to prepare a reference list. 6. Where to find additional information.

7 Resume Do’s  Tips for getting your resume noticed:  Use high-quality paper  Consistent with dates, numbers, spacing, abbreviations, etc.  Check and re-check for errors  Someone else critique your résumé

8 Resume Don’ts  Ways to NOT get noticed:  Underestimate this as your first impression  Write lengthy prose  Use multiple fonts, typographic symbols, or visual elements

9 Resume Don’ts  Do NOT do the following:  Use personal pronouns (I, we, my)  Include a photograph  Mention personal data  Give information that could potentially screen you “out” of the job

15 Step 4 - Experience  Accomplishment statements  Emphasize major responsibilities, accomplishments and results  Quantify when possible  Start with action verbs (use past tense if not current job)
