WATER 4.1 RENEWABLE FRESHWATER RESOURCES 4.3 FRESHWATER AVAILABLE FOR USE ANGUILLA CARICOM Workshop on Environment Statistics April 7 - 8, 2014 Brittany Christopher - Harris Anguilla Statistics Department

OVERVIEW Definition of Indicators Method of Computation Data Sources Method of Data Collection What Data is Available? Recommendations and Areas for Improvement

DEFINITIONS OF INDICATORS 4.1 Renewable Freshwater Resources  Total actual renewable water resources (TARWR) are the sum of internal renewable water resources and the Total actual external renewable water resources.  However as it relates to Anguilla, this indicator only reflects precipitation data. 4.3 Freshwater Available for Use  Total freshwater available for use are the sum of desalinated water, reused water and imports of water.

METHOD OF COMPUTATION The data derived from the monthly reports submitted by the respective providers. This data is also reported on an annual basis, which calculates the sum of the 12 months of the reporting year.

DATA SOURCES Presently, the Water Corporation of Anguilla and the Meteorological Office are the primary providers of the data. The Anguilla Statistics Department, however is the primary source, which collates and disseminates the data. Some of this data specific to household usage can be extracted from previous census surveys.

METHOD OF DATA COLLECTION The data is collected electronically via a standard template using Microsoft Excel. Data received from the Water Corporation of Anguilla is generally emailed to the ASD on an ad hoc basis. However, the data from the metrological office is forthcoming and on schedule each month.

WHAT DATA IS AVAILABLE? Fortunately, there are no data gaps for the data that is currently available. However, data that is generally derived from censual years would reflect some deficiencies in its availability.

RECOMMENDATIONS AND AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT Some recommendations include:  To collaborate with Water Corporation of Anguilla and gather data on the various elements such as household consumption etc.  Liaise with domestic and commercial agricultural workers and Department of Agriculture to compile on the water consumption for cultivation and similar activities. Areas for Improvement include:  Increase of resources both financial and human  Strengthen the working relationship with current providers  Increase the level of publication of data through brief reports such as pamphlets, flyers etc.
