1 www.ks1resources.co.uk Mothering Sunday On the fourth Sunday of Lent, it’s Mothering Sunday. No one is absolutely sure exactly how the idea of Mothering Sunday began, but we know that on this day, three or four hundred years ago, people who lived in little villages made a point of going not to their local church, but to the nearest big church. Some would go to the city to worship in the cathedral. A cathedral is a very large church and the mother church of all other churches in the area.
