3 Nouns (Things) Concrete: Wall, paper, mouse Abstract: Fear, excitement (not frightened or exciting) On a post-it, write a minimum of 20 abstract and 20 concrete nouns

4 Adjectives An adjective adds DESCRIPTION to a noun (thing) On a post-it write a minimum of twenty adjectives. The (adjective) dog… The black dog The angry dog

10 How to write about a writer’s use of language Is the writing formal or informal in style? What kind of ‘voice’ does the writer use? Is it personal (look out for personal pronouns) or impersonal? What is the tone of the writing? Does the writer use exclamations? Questions or imperatives (orders)? Is there any dialogue or quotes? What type of sentences are used? Long or short? Are any of the word classes more important than others? i.e the verbs, adjectives or adverbs Does the writer use any literary techniques such as metaphors or alliteration? How is the writing structured? Paragraphs? Bullet points? Headings? What is the purpose of the writing?
