2 Overview: Our objective was to build a device able to turn on a coffee pot We purchased only the wood, pulley, and nails costing around $10 The potential energy of a baseball at the top of a ramp goes through a series of conversions to end with a wooden dowel pushing the on button of the coffee pot.

4 Energy Conversions The potential energy of the ball is converted to kinetic energy The ball bounces off the floor transferring its kinetic energy to the bottom of the truck ramp. The potential energy of the truck is converted to kinetic as it rolls down the ramp. The trucks kinetic energy is transferred to the dowel The force on the dowel pushes the on button of the coffee maker.

5 Making Coffee

6 Conclusions Our project took 3-4 hours for shopping for parts, 4-5 hours for construction, and several more for the report and presentation preparation. We had issues in the original plan such as a pulley lifting the ball to the top of the ramp which proved to difficult to achieve and problems with getting the dowel to assert a force long enough to turn on the coffee maker.
