2 Factoring Factoring is rewriting an expression as the product of its factors. ◦ Ex: x² + 7x +12 = (x + 3)(x + 4) The first step in factoring, is to pull out the greatest common factor (GCF). ◦ Ex: 4x² - 16 = 4(x² - 4)
