9 PRUDENT HEART LIVING Control High Blood Pressure Control Cholesterol Control Diabetes Lower STRESS Stop Smoking Exercise Regularly Eliminate Obesity

10 SIGNS & SYMPTOMS HEART ATTACK SHARP, STABBING PAIN (CHEST) Shortness of Breath Nausea Sweating No relief from NITRO WEAKNESS Pain may spread

11 ACTIONS FOR SURVIVAL Have victim STOP and REST If pain lasts for 5 minutes or more CALL 911 If victim takes NITRO have him do so no more than 3

12 STROKE (BRAIN ATTACK) Facial Droop - EYE & MOUTH Slurred Speech Weakness ONLY on one side in arm and or leg may not be able to stand May have airway problems 85% of strokes happen at home Golden Hour for treatment

14 UNIQUE SITUATIONS PREGNANCY ELECTRIC SHOCK HYPOTHERMIA NEAR-DROWNING ALLERGIES SEIZURE

15 AUTOMATED EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATION Indications for use Witnessed arrest – Use Immediately Unwitnessed – Provide 2 Mins CPR 1st Ventricular Fibrillation (VF) (VT) Should be done within the first 10 minutes (if longer still try)

16 A.E.D. CONSIDERATIONS FOR USE Victim laying in water Victim AWAKE & TALKING NITROGLYCERIN Patches Excessive chest hair Body contact with victim

17 Using the A.E.D. Attach the pads to AED Apply pads to the bare chest Press start/on button CLEAR the victim DO WHAT THE AED TELLS YOU Provide a brief report for EMS

18 A.E.D. RECAP TURN ON AED ATTATCH AED PADS to VICTIM CLEAR VICTIM CONSIDER CONDITIONS FOLLOW DIRECTIONS REASSESS VICTIM – DO CPR OR CONTINUE TO MONITOR VICTIM

19 CPR STEPS LOOK, LISTEN, FEEL & Call 911 A.B.C.’s of CPR AIRWAY - ( HEAD TILT- CHIN LIFT) BREATHING – Good or Bad ? Any (CHEST RISE) Signs of CIRCULATION or (PULSE)

20 CPR RATE OF COMPRESSION ADULT 30-2 5 cycles in 2 minutes CHILD 30-2 5 cycles in 2 minutes INFANT 30-2 5 cycles in 2 minutes

22 CPR CHEST COMPRESSIONS ADULT – 2 hands - press 1 1/2 TO 2 IN. CHILD 1 or 2 hands - press 1 TO 1 1/2 IN. INFANT press w 2 fingers 1/2 TO 1/3 depth of chest
