3 PROCEDURE:  Pages 206-208

4 DATA:  Directions Enter the appropriate data from Inquiry 18.1 in the following table. Seed Pods # Seed # Average (seeds/pod)

5 DATA ANALYSIS:  A.What initiated the formation of the seed pods?  B.What do you think determines the number of seeds found in each pod?  C.Was it more than mere luck that the seeds came out of the pods so easily? Explain.

6  D.In Lesson 9, you counted the number of Fast Plants that displayed a purple pigment in their stem and leaves. You recorded this number in your science notebook. You pollinated these plants and harvested their seeds. You chose 36 of these seeds and set them up for germination in your group’s petri dish. If all of the seed germinated, how many of the sprouts do you predict will display the purple pigment? ______ Explain.  E.Why do you think some species of plants produce only one seed in a fruit, while others produce thousands of seeds?  F.Of what importance to the plant is the dispersal of seeds?

7 Reading: “Seedless Plants” – pages 209-210 1. Describe what a plant graft is. 2. How might a plant graft be useful to humans? 3. In the space to the right, draw a picture of a grafted plant and label the rootstock and the scion.
