PDS Geosciences Node Page 2 Background Grayzeck and company approached the Geosciences Node with the idea of starting a Lunar Data Node They are interested in interacting with lunar missions and ESMD on data archiving issues. They would like to recover older lunar data sets of relevance to current and future lunar exploration. Grayzeck, Schultz, and Geosciences Node have iterated on a proposed statement of work. SOW would establish a lunar data node under the Geosciences Node and a lunar support node to assist the PDS management council. SOW discussed at teleconference (March 27, 2007) with Jim Garvin, who would be the data and support node lead.

3. PDS Geosciences Node Page 3 Lunar Data Node Serve as a lunar data node to the Geosciences Node to recover Apollo data sets of relevance to the new lunar exploration program. Serve as a lunar data node to the Geosciences Node to work with the Selene Mission for ingestion of geosciences data sets. Interact with LRO as directed by Geosciences Node.

PDS Geosciences Node Page 4 Lunar Support Node to PDS MC Lead interface work with ESMD, including helping establish requirements for ESMD-related lunar archives and providing expert help on data systems and PDS archives. Lead the PDS interface to the Selene Mission. Provide a survey of lunar data to ESMD or other customers as needed. Provide expert advice to the community about lunar archives within the PDS and education packages as needed.
