YELLOWSTONE GEYSERS A geyser is when molten rock is under the crust near a under ground water source. Then the magma super heats the water. So it tries to expand but it is in a chamber. So then it shoots straight out up to 3 stories tall that’s huge.

YELLOWSTONE HOT SPRINGS Some of the springs in Yellow stone are very colorful. Just like a rainbow with all the different colors. They are hot springs they get hotter the deeper it gets. The outer orange ring is the coolest. Then the others get hotter the deeper it gets. Can you believe that the algae does this. Every color is a different type of algae. And the center of it is to hot for any life.

PREDATORS AND PREY Bear Cougar Wolves Coyote Elk Bison Moose Salmon Fish Algae

ANIMAL INFO After over hunting killed off the last of Yellowstone Wolves in the early 1900s scientist had to take action, so in 1995 biologist brought in a new group of wolves. Bears have always been a star attraction at Yellowstone for better or for worse. Bears have learned to live off of human trash and charity. The black bears even try to put on a show, but some grizzly bears are downright dangerous. There also an endangered species!!

YELLOWSTONE? MORE LIKE JURASSIC! Yellowstone National park used to look more like Jurassic park 150 million years ago. The climate was subtropical, mild all year. It had lots of different dinosaurs like Stegosaurus, Apatosaurus and many more.

LOCAL NATIVES In 10000 B.C. The Paleo Indians hunted bison using simple but sharp tools. It was a favorite but dangerous tactic. It was to drive the bison off a cliff. With butchers on the bottom and they carved as many as they could. the ones that they didn’t carve where left to rot! Standing in the wrong spot could get you killed.

SACAGAWEA Sacagawea the famous Shoshone guide helped explorers Lewis and Clark cross her peoples land. In 1806 part of there expedition explores the Yellowstone river for years their reports on the area was fantastic geology. Deep gorges soaring mountains spectacular water falls. Were told as tall tales and unbelievable.

FOREST FIRES BEFORE AND DURING

FOREST FIRES CONTINUED Change is unavoidable at Yellowstone and not only because of human presence. And in the dry summer of 1988 a tiny fire started in a far corner of Yellowstone. Soon wind and dry vegetation caused more fires to brake out. For several months Yellowstone burned. About 20% of the park was destroyed scientists believe the fires were natural and necessary for Yellowstone.

YELLOWSTONE ACCIDENTS Each year people fall into hot springs and get scalded or get killed. Many victims have disobeyed park rules and regulations like stay on the board walk this rule is to keep people from falling through thin rock around springs. So obey the park rules!!!!!!!!!
