3 Denmark has been a Monarchy as long as it has existed The first known king is Gorm the Old Had great power because of the Vikings (750- 1035 A.D.) Gorms grandson, Canute the Great, commanded a vast empire that included England until 1035 A.D. Gorm the Olds son, Harold Bluetooth united the country under Christianity Queen Margrethe I united Denmark, Norway, and Sweden in the union of Kalmar in 1849

10 Health care is provided Medicine is available a low cost The health care is provided for from the tax money that the country collects yearly But there is a down side of having free health. Taxes are very high, 60.2%. Denmark last year had the highest top personal income tax rate among the 34 countries in the OECD

11 For women’s sport there is gymnastics, hand ball, horse back riding, and badminton. Danes also play games such as hand ball, badminton, swimming, sailing cycling, and jogging Soccer is the most popular spectated game Danes like to travel

12 Great holiday traditions: -In New Years Eve they attend parties -Listen to the queen and the prime minister’s annual speech -Mardi Gras February 9 -Constitution day June 5 th, count’s as a half holiday January 5 th is a Denmark holiday
