1 Today is Monday, October 26 th. No warm-up today!: You and your group members will need one whiteboard (sharing is caring!) Today, we will be looking at examples of compare and contrast paragraphs. We’ll discuss how they are scored and how to improve them.

3 You and your group members will receive a rubric and a white board Use it to score each sample paragraph Be prepared to share your reasons!

4 Washington and Idaho are two states. Washington is next to the Pacific, and Idaho doesn’t touch an ocean. They have different populations. Idaho is shaped like the letter L, but Washington has a different shape. Both are states. Idaho has a capital city and so does Washington. They also have similar geography.

Warm-up: Respond to the following questions: 1.What went well in your most recent compare and contrast paragraph? 2.What is one thing you can improve? 3.How are you going to make this improvement (what are your next steps)? 4.What is one question you still have about this process? 6 Washington and Idaho are two different states. Washington is next to the Pacific whereas Idaho doesn’t touch an ocean. They have different populations. Washington’s population is bigger than Idaho’s. Idaho is shaped like the letter L, but Washington has a different shape. It looks kind of like a fist with a thumb pointing out. In Washington, there are large cities like Seattle, Tacoma and Spokane. Idaho, on the other hand, has mostly small towns. Idaho is also covered by a desert in the south, but Washington does not have a desert. As you can see, Washington and Idaho are not the same.

7 Washington and Idaho are two states, and they are similar and different in many ways. Washington is next to the Pacific Ocean; on the other hand, Idaho doesn’t touch an ocean. They have different populations. Washington’s population is bigger than Idaho’s. Idaho is shaped like the letter L. However, Washington looks kind of like a fist with a thumb pointing out. Both Washington and Idaho are states. They also have capital cities. Washington has mountains, rivers and lakes. Idaho has these physical features as well. As you can see, these two states have some things in common, but they are also different.

8 How do we prepare food in our culture (or yours!)? What is the process for serving and eating food in homes around the U.S.? How is this similar to food culture in India? How is this different from food culture in India?
