Warm Up 1.The area of Kyle’s shop is 72 square meters. Which one of the following dimensions could Kyle’s shop be? a.30 meters long and 42 meters wide b.9 meters long and 8 meters wide c.52 meters long and 20 meters wide d.7 meters long and 8 meters wide 2. How many centimeters are equal to 6 meters? (Use your mathematics chart) 3. Which table shows 4 more than 5 times the number in Set A? A. B. 4. Ashley wrote down the number of people on her basketball team. Then she multiplied the number by 2 and subtracted 6 from the product. The result was 8. What was the number of people on Ashley’s basketball team? Set ASet B 19 319 634 Set ASet B 19 311 614

Al’s Appliance Warehouse storewide savings off our everyday low prices! 5. Write and solve a number sentence that could be used to find the regular price of a stereo and a refrigerator. Reg $1,200 Save $175 Reg $ 2090 Save $128 Reg $ 312 Save $26 Reg $ 250 Save $39 Reg $ 812 Save $75

How can we use patterns to multiple by multiples of 10? Here’s a problem for you to solve before we talk about it together. Think about the work you’ve been doing on multiplying by 10s. How can that help you with this problem? 15 x 13=

How can we use patterns to multiple by multiples of 10? Practice with your group to solve the following problems by breaking apart. 1. 23 x 12= 2. 18 x 45= 3. 42 x 36= 2. 54 x 62=

How can we use patterns to multiple by multiples of 10 and 100? Additional Practice If Needed Show: Video 7-4 on EnVision “Visual Learning Animations” CD

Multiplying 2-Digit Numbers by Multiples of Ten Problem: In January, Tim’s aquarium had 23 guppies. A year later, he had 90 times as many guppies. How many guppies does Tim have now? Find a shortcut to solve the problem. 23 90 How can you use a grid to find the product 23 x 90? Could we split one of the factors? Which factor should we split to make the problem easier??? Why would splitting 23 make the problem easier? It would make our problem easier, because 90 is already a multiple of 10 and now we also have 20 which is a multiple of 10. Work with your shoulder partner to find the two partial products. 20 x 90 = 1,800 and 90 x 3 = 270 Add partial products together: 1,800 + 270 = 203 1,800 270 2, 070

Guided Practice Work with your shoulder partner to solve the above problems. Then, discuss your results with the class.

Multiplying 2-Digit Numbers by Multiples of Ten Numbers p. 162-163 Independent Practice: 10-34 EVEN Complete on Notebook Paper BOX your answers! **Spiral Assessment #9**
