Letter of Application for Position of Lecturer  I think that learning is a continuous process and being a lecturer allows me to help students grow and develop by helping them to understand the study material as well as the work environment (using some of my industrial experience).  Our students need encouragement, inspiration, motivation, to build confidence, which I try to help them with.

Peer Review Peer Review  Peer reviewers stress the use of group work and students participation.  I ensure that students understand the instructions, even if I have to rephrase and repeat myself.  Group work, clear or repeated instructions coupled with case studies has equipped my students to answer such questions in tests and exams better.

 My lesson plans include various methods, examples and activities  Outcomes are always written on the board.  Activities can range from 5-35 minutess, from simply listing examples to completing a table, from drawings to calculations.  Students are always encouraged to ask questions, share their thoughts and thoughts and experiences in class  In my opinion the overuse of any method will defeat its purpose.

Development Opportunities  The Best Teaching Practice (SLP) and other workshops can be seen fixed assets in the field of education.  I have implemented the methods in the classroom with mixed outcomes  Some students really enjoyed the methods and others did not.  It did help more students to participate and learn more.  Other workshops helped in the development as a lecturer

Teaching Philosophy As a lecturer/teacher I would like to encourage. As a lecturer/teacher I would like to encourage learning by creating a culture of learning. The role we play in student’s lives, give us an opportunity to help students understand the importance of learning. We can equip them with all that they need to enter the working world and excel in their careers. Introduce them to new avenues and help them gain self confidence. We can also instill good values in them thereby making a difference in their lives by educating them. Education is the key to a brighter future and the youth are the future of South Africa. My challenge is to motivate students to like and learn theory

Goals and Strategies  Encourage learning  Help and guide students to work in groups as well as independently  Help students to understand study material and the world of work  Use various techniques and methods  Encourage students to pass  Be a good role model

Comprehensive Mark Sheets  From experience I decided to draw up a comprehensive performance tracking sheets  I had a similar sheet since 2011, S2, but have adapted it over time.  This allows me to monitor performance and identify possible reasons for lack thereof  This sheet also saves time and space when up-dating E-POE

Pass Rates Over The Years  From experience I also decided to calculate my pass rates.  2011-2012, there’s room for a few errors as I did records based mostly from memory.  Results are also roughly calculated, calculations exclude students who dropped out  2013, S1 should be accurate  The sheet highlights pass rates below 50%, in Red, 50% in Yellow, 100% in Green and between 60% - 95% not highlighted.  However I cannot take full credit for bad pass rates for BUMAf131, S1, 2012, since the study material was really mixed up.  I think educators can not take credit for everything that goes right or wrong with students.
