5 Comprehensive Exam Schedule Fall, Year 1Select permanent academic advisor and the major field of the study by the end of Fall Semester. Spring, Year 1 Comprehensive Examination Committee (CEC) is formed for each student by Apr. 15. Summer, Year 1 Student & advisor tailor Essential Knowledge list in accord with student’s thesis research area Fall, Year 2Required course on Scientific Writing must be taken by Fall of Second Year. Student requests CEC approval of his/her abstract of the thesis proposal and the Student’s Essential Knowledge list (by the end of Fall Semester). Spring, Year 2 Student submits his/her thesis proposal (by March 1) Two-step Written & Oral Examination: 1. Written Exam (one day prior to Spring Break) 2. Oral examination (presentation of thesis proposal followed by questions/discussion; completed by April 15). Timeline Associated with Comprehensive Examination
