The Dolphin Dilemma Task Showcase 2 The sample task illustrates how critical thinking aspects of ELA CCSS can be assessed through scenario-based performance assessment. Evidence-centered concept map is used as a thinking tool to make student thinking process visible.

Alignment with ELA CCSS 3 The task measures Grade 8 student proficiency in: Delineate and evaluate the argument and specific claims in a text, assessing whether the reasoning is sound and the evidence is relevant and sufficient; recognize when irrelevant evidence is introduced. Analyze a case in which two or more texts provide conflicting information on the same topic and identify where the texts disagree on matters of fact or interpretation. Support claim(s) with logical reasoning and relevant evidence, using accurate, credible sources and demonstrating an understanding of the topic or text. Provide a concluding statement or section that follows from and supports the argument presented.
