6 Conjunctions A conjunction is a word that joins words, phrases, and sentences together.

7 Conjunctions and but for nor or so yet A conjunction joins words or word groups that are used in the same way.

8 Examples: * beans and rice * movies or television * go for a walk or read a book * I wanted to call, but it was late.

12 The word for can be used either as a conjunction or as a preposition.
The zebra turned toward the watering hole, for it was getting thirsty. For joins the two sentences. PREPOSITION The zebra walked to the stream for a drink. For shows the relationship between the object drink and the verb walked.
