Density How close together the molecules of an object are. How Dense the molecules are. “Dense forest” = thick, hard to see through.

Density Calculation Compares the mass to the volume. Density = Mass ÷ Volume

Density Units Grams per Milliliter = g/mL (if volume using liquid) or Grams per Cubic Centimeter = g/cm 3 (if volume using V= l x w x h)

Mass = 50 grams Volume = 5 mL Density = ??? g/mL

A gold-colored ring has a mass of about 19 grams and a volume of about1 mL. Is the ring pure gold? The density of gold is about 19 g/mL

A sample of lead is found to have a mass of about 36g. A graduated cylinder contains 2.8 mL of water. After the lead sample is added to the cylinder the water level reads 5.8 mL. Calculate the density of the lead sample.

From their density values, decide whether each of the following substances will sink or float when placed in sea water, which has a density of 1.025 g/mL. Gasoline 0.66 g/mL Asphalt l.2 g/mL Mercury 13.6 g/mL Cork 0.26 g/mL
