States: Wisconsin Contract crews are in the fifth panel of the second cycle of data collection on their 514,000 ac. Contract crews are in the fifth panel of the second cycle of data collection on their 514,000 ac. Data and estimates are being made available using PC EVALIDator, including some P3 data. Data and estimates are being made available using PC EVALIDator, including some P3 data. Starting to plan for third cycle and the switch to latest manual. Will likely add the P2+ regeneration protocol.

States: Indiana NIMAC developed a PC version of NIMS so that Indiana can process the data themselves. NIMAC developed a PC version of NIMS so that Indiana can process the data themselves. Joey Gallion is doing a great job with occasional help from NIMAC. Joey Gallion is doing a great job with occasional help from NIMAC. We will discuss planning for the third cycle in another year. We will discuss planning for the third cycle in another year.

States: Missouri Missouri Missouri crews are finishing the fifth season of field work on 600,000 acres of state forest land and thus completing the first cycle. The state is continuing to do the fieldwork in the off season. NIMAC is processing the data. NIMAC is processing the data.

States: Massachusetts Massachusetts-- has been doing CFI since 1960. NIMAC is working with Bill Hill to load old data and algorithms into PC EVALIDator, plus providing the tools to load new data on their own each year. Part of the agreement is to add ratio estimation into EVALIDator – hopefully enabling volume per acre estimation for Massachusetts and other NIMAC customers. NIMAC is building a tool to export the data to the Forest Vegetation Simulator (FVS).

Northeastern Fish &Wildlife Service The F&WS chose to use SIBP 2, which is a comprehensive data collection, compilation, modeling and analysis toolkit that was developed by a Honduran in collaboration with NIMAC. They conducted a field trial of the data collection module and will soon decide whether or not to use it or Forest Metrix.

National Forest System NFS continues to fund the development of the Design and Analysis Toolkit for Inventory and Monitoring (DATIM). NFS continues to fund the development of the Design and Analysis Toolkit for Inventory and Monitoring (DATIM). FIA is now also contributing funding FIA is now also contributing funding so that it can succeed FIDO. DATIM should become available outside the FS in either July 2016 or January 2017. DATIM has components for the design, compilation, estimation, and spatial queries of the FIA data.

Overview of DATIM Design Tool (DTIM) – to help identify information needs (monitoring questions & indicators), design monitoring report tables, and perhaps the inventory design. Used by States and NFS to intensify. DataMart and Compilation – import FIA and NFS data, then add FVS and other computed attributes. Analytical Tool (ATIM) – analyze the inventory data to answer monitoring questions – similar functions to FIDO and EVALIDator Spatial Intersection Tool (SIT) – perform spatial intersections of the data with maps to perform specialized analyses in ATIM

Resources Available Live demo – contact us to arrange a virtual meeting

Resources Available Training videos – we are working with San Dimas Technology Development Center to develop online training modules.

Resources Available Quick Start Guide – we are almost ready to post on the DATIM website

Resources Available Online help

Resources Available User’s manual

International: NIMAC continues to work with tropical countries as part of REDD+ with USAID, State Dept. and UN FAO funding. The goal is to reduce carbon emissions and encourage sustainable forest management, but this requires setting up a monitoring system. Working with FAO on the Voluntary Guidelines for National Forest Monitoring. Currently working with Bangladesh, Vietnam, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Honduras, Guatemala, Mexico, Gabon, Cameroon, Republic of Congo, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Leadership Changes I will retire Dec. 31. Jim Westfall will take over leadership of NIMAC. He will focus on NIMAC’s domestic projects. Andy Lister will take over my responsibilities for the international projects. Liz Burrill will take over leadership for DATIM. We have been transitioning over several months, so things should go smoothly. NIMAC and its customers are in good hands.
