1 Thinking as a Scientist LT: To develop a testable question and carry out a scientific investigations Evidence/Notes What makes a good testable question? Good Has measurable and quantifiable data measurements with numbers observations with specifics (like in observing and drawing) Includes and compares variables Poor More that one answer non- measurable or relative measurements includes bias Why questions are not good testable question.

2 Compare the Questions Does rock music make more money than hip-hop music? Vs What is the % increase in sales in rock music in the northeast area for the 2013 fiscal year?

3 You Try – Record question in your journal Do vegetarians experience fewer heart attacks than meat eaters?

4 JOBS FOR TERMITES- Everyone writes in the journal A – Materials Manager – clean up and asking for materials B- Reader – Read the directions out loud to group C- Recorder – Records info on presentation paper – Makes sure everyone writes in notebook. D- Presenter – Presents data to the class. If there is no D then A is presenter and materials manager.

5 Process and Procedure 1.√ 2. √ - Materials are at the station – Mrs. Kimble will bring you a termite 3. Attach the diagram in your journal – If you do not have the original – them tell which partner has the diagram. ( Make a sketch) 4. Record the 3 questions 5. Write your final question – Check with Mrs. Kimble to see if it is “testable” 6-8 – Record in your journal BE PREPARED TO PRESENT TOMORROW – WRITE QUESTION, EXPERIMENT, DATA, And RESULTS on the Handout – we will put them under the document camera Tomorrow for discussion.
