6 Assessment in 85 facilities, –Low level of compliance in prenatal care, and child care clinics: 0-33%. Lack of compliance with infection prevention practices: no handwashing, poor biosafety practices, poor disinfection, inadequate waste disposal. Lack of motivation for compliance. Baseline

7 September 2009: quality health team received IP standards training October 2009: Action plan to improve best practices developed 10 month follow –up led by regional health directorate Defining infection prevention standards Infection Prevention Workshop, 2009

8 New request for materials according to standard precautions. 25 local providers received IP prevention training Check-list used to evaluate compliance Implementing best practices

10  2010: quality health team recognized by regional health authority  2011: Campoverde Health Center qualified as a competency-based training center for infection prevention Recognition

11 Individual facility team members promoted to higher level positions IP action plan inserted in regional results-based budget Involvement of regional university in training center capacity for IP Ensuring sustainability

12  The application of PIM helps to guide standards development, in particular for infection prevention.  Quality teams carry out a holistic role to set the stage for IP practices compliance.  Improved logistics and budget support can help ensure sustainability.
