2 Let’s use an example equation: What is the density of an object if its mass is 10 grams and its volume is 5 cubic centimeters? 3 STEP 1! Write the equation! EXAMPLE: What is the density of an object if its mass is 10 grams (g) and its volume is 5 cubic centimeters (cc)? In this case, we need the DENSITY formula Find the equation on the 1 st page of your ESRT Density = mass/volume D = m/v

4 STEP 2: Substitute in your numbers!! EXAMPLE: What is the density of an object if its mass is 10 grams and its volume is 5 cc? EXAMPLE: What is the density of an object if its mass is 10 grams and its volume is 5 cc? Now we plug in numbers from the equation D = m/v (from step1) D = 10g/5cc Whew! OK, ready for the last step?

5 STEP 3: Solve the Equation! EXAMPLE: What is the density of an object if its mass is 10g and its volume is 5cc? EXAMPLE: What is the density of an object if its mass is 10g and its volume is 5cc? NO NAKED NUMBERS!! Always include units. Also, circle your final answer D = m/v (from step1) D = 10g/5cc (from Step 2) What’s 10g/5cc You got it – 2, but 2 what? Yes, 2 g/cc
