5. 1.UNTREATED WATER CAN CAUSE AN IMBALANCE IN THE pH LEVEL, CAUSING IT BE CORROSIVE 2.THE CORROSIVE WATER WARES AWAY THE PROTECTIVE COATING KEEPING THE LEAD IN THE PIPES FROM COMING IN CONTACT WITH THE WATER 3.ONCE THE PROTECTIVE COATING IS GONE, THE LEAD WILL BEGIN MIGRATING THROUGHOUT THE SYSTEM AND INTO HOMES Untreated water can cause an imbalance in the pH level, causing it be corrosive The corrosive water wears away the protective coating that keeps the lead in pipes from coming in contact with the water Once the protective coating is gone, the lead will begin migrating throughout the system and into homes
