4  Graphic representations of the relative amounts of energy or matter at each trophic level  Include:  Pyramid of Energy= counts the amount of calories available in an ecosystem.(measured in calories, heat is released)  Pyramid of Biomass= Measures the amount of living matter available at each level. (Measured in grams/kilograms)  Pyramid of Numbers= measures the number of organisms at each feeding level.(Measured in number of organisms)

5  We stated that these were graphic representations of the relative amounts of energy or matter at each level  Large amounts of energy are lost at each link, thus only a small portion is passed to the next level because organisms fail to capture all the energy from the organism they eat from.  As you go up the pyramid, you find less food/energy available for use – only 10% is passed on from the previous level  We call this the “10% Rule”
