3 What is the Big Read…  The Big Read is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) designed to restore reading to the center of American culture. Managed by Arts Midwest, The Big Read provides competitive grants to support innovative reading programs in selected communities.  One to one matching grant  Ranging from $2,500 to $20,000 The NEA has funded more than 1,100 Big Read programs, providing more than $16 million in grants.

4 Before you apply…  This is a matching grant  Staff time  Includes evaluation/reporting  You need to request a DUNS number  Can take a few days to receive  The Big Read website The Big Read website Before you can bid on government proposals, you need to obtain a Dun & Bradstreet, or D-U-N-S, Number, a unique nine-digit identification number for each physical location of your business. D-U-N-S Number assignment is free for all businesses required to register with the federal government for contracts or grants.
