Halacha Dr. David Caron

What is Halacha (Halakhah)?  הֲלָכָה  To Walk  To go Forth

Ms. Mary  In the Hebrew language the word for “walk” is “ha-lak.” One can almost hear the sandal striking the pavement. Since Hebrew is a very poetic and expressive language, the word for walk has come to symbolize a person’s manner of life.

Exodus 18:20 (NKJV) 20 And you shall teach them the statutes and the laws, and show them the way in which they must walk and the work they must do.

Deuteronomy 6:7 (NKJV) 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.

Jeremiah 6:16 (NKJV) 16 Thus says the L ORD : “Stand in the ways and see, And ask for the old paths, where the good way is, And walk in it; Then you will find rest for your souls. But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.’

Jeremiah 32:23 (NKJV) 23 And they came in and took possession of it, but they have not obeyed Your voice or walked in Your law. They have done nothing of all that You commanded them to do; therefore You have caused all this calamity to come upon them.

Psalm 1:1–3 (NKJV) 1 Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; 2 But his delight is in the law of the L ORD, And in His law he meditates day and night. 3 He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.

Halakhah is not man made rules to beat you up…  There is an appeal to all people to meditate upon the teaching of God and to apply it to the way they live their life. This Halakhah, which all should seek, represents the good life, in every way. The teaching of God is to be applied and is not meant to be a theory alone. Nevertheless, the mistake is to see all that God has taught as simply legalistic - as a set of rules alone. Such rules, ultimately, can become lifeless. This was the reason for Yeshua (Jesus) strongly criticising the interpreters of the Torah of His day  -F. Clifford Denton, D. Phil

Luke 11:46 (NKJV) 46 And He said, “Woe to you also, lawyers! For you load men with burdens hard to bear, and you yourselves do not touch the burdens with one of your fingers.

Mark 7:5-23  …while the ordinances of Scripture required no confirmation, those of the Scribes needed such, and…no Halakhah might contradict Scripture. When Christ…proceeded to show…that the Halakhah was utterly incompatible with Scripture…He dealt the heaviest blow to traditionalism. Rabbinism stood self- condemned; on its own showing, it was to be rejected as incompatible with the Word of God  Edersheim, A. (1896). The Life and Times of Jesus the Messiah (Vol. 2, p. 17). New York: Longmans, Green, and Co.

Halacha is not done away with in the OT  James 1:22; 1 John 2:6; 1 John 3:11; Romans 6:4; Romans 8; Philippians 3:18; Ephesians 4, 5; Joh 14:15,23; Luke 6:46; 2 Peter 3:17; James 2:26; Philippians 2:13, Matthew 7:21-29; Matthew 25:31- 46; Matthew 28:19-20

2 Timothy 3:16 (NKJV) 16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,

Halacha (rabbinic) without relationship ends with failure  Patience and fortitude.  Psalms 1:1-3… “his delight”  Where is your delight  Start making your own Halacha.

Philippians 2:12–13 (NKJV) 12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; 13 for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.

God Walks or God Comes… this is the word Halakha  Ps 104:3 he walks on the clouds  Job 22:14 in the Heavens  Ps 80:2 He comes to you for salvation  Exodus 33:14 He goes with you for rest  Exodus 13:21 He desires to go with you by day and by night  Isaiah 45:1-3 He goes before you to make crooked straight…  Joshua 3:6 and Num 10:32-36… People respond by walking with Him walking by His direction (Footprints)  Ex 32:1 and Jer 5:23 apostasy is going after false gods
