THE DEITY OF CHRIST I. WHAT DOES “GODHEAD” MEAN? A. “Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device.” (Acts 17:29 KJV, ASV) “that which is divine” (DBY) “the Divine Nature” (NKJV, WEB) “the Deity” (RSV, LSV, SRV) B. “The state of being God.” Compare: Childhood. Womanhood. Manhood. Humanity.

THE DEITY OF CHRIST I. WHAT DOES “GODHEAD” MEAN? C. Three Persons – One Divine Nature Father is God (1 Cor. 8:6). Son is God (Heb. 1:8). Holy Spirit is God (Acts 5:3-4). I.e. All three have the same attributes of Deity. 1. All knowing (Heb. 4:13). 2. Eternal (Deut. 33:27). 3. All powerful (Rev. 1:8).

A. “The voice of one that crieth, Prepare ye in the wilderness the way of Jehovah; make level in the desert a highway for our God.” (Is. 40:3) “For this is he that was spoken of through Isaiah the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make ye ready the way of the Lord, Make his paths straight.” (Mt. 3:3) John prepared the way for JESUS (Jn. 3:28)!

B. “And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of Jehovah shall be delivered; for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be those that escape, as Jehovah hath said, and among the remnant those whom Jehovah doth call.” (Joel 2:32) “But this is that which hath been spoken through the prophet Joel… And it shall be, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. Ye men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth,.” (Acts 2:16, 21-22)

C. “Jehovah of hosts, him shall ye sanctify; and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread. And he shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling and for a rock of offence to both the houses of Israel, for a gin and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem..” (Is. 8:13-14) “…The stone which the builders rejected, The same was made the head of the corner; and, A stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence; for they stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.” (1 Pet. 2:7)

A. Not the same person, but the same nature. John 1:1 “the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” B. Received Worship (Mt. 4:10; 14:33; John 20:28-29; Heb. 1:6). C. Claimed Equality With God (John 5:17-18; 8:24, 56-59; 10:30-33).

“Hear, O Israel: Jehovah our God is one Jehovah” A. One = “Achad” (Heb). (Strong 0259) “properly, united, i.e. one…” Same as Gen. 2:24, “one flesh” B. Compare: John 17:21 Disciples “one” as Father & Son 1 Cor. 1:10 Christians are “one” Acts 4: “One” heart & soul Acts 7:26 Two men set at “one” again

9 THE DEITY OF CHRIST CONCLUSION:
A. Three Persons – One Divine Nature B. Jesus is Jehovah, God, Divine, Deity. “I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.” (John 8:24)
