3 Celebrate Black History Month is a thematic unit developed to teach students about the history and culture of African Americans. Throughout the unit students will not only develop a knowledge of black history, but also empathy for African Americans. Menu Next Previous

4 Students will be able to recreate the persona of an influential African American and conduct an interview as that person. Students will be able to apply their understanding of different periods in African American History to the creation of projects based upon those periods of time. Students will analyze various works of art from throughout African American history. Menu Next Previous

9 Students will read various folk tales from Africa. As students read, they will take note of the customs and culture that they learned from reading the folktales. Then students will write their own folktale based upon what they learned from the example. Menu Activities Next

10 Students will study the persuasive power of the speeches given by famous African Americans such as Martin Luther King Jr. and Barak Obama. Students will analyze the structure of the speeches to determine how effective they were. Menu Activities Next
