Warm Up – Journal Prompt Read through the article at the front of the room. Highlight/circle any math terms, specifically those related to Statistics, and list them in your journal. In one or two sentences, summarize the main points of the article.

Warm Up Sam’s Wholesale Club sells a tub of Zany Zoo animal crackers. There are 5 different animals represented (zebra, monkey, elephant, lion & tiger). If you select ten crackers at a time, design a simulation that would be used to find the probability of getting 1 of each animal in each handful. a)Tell what each number will stand for in the simulation. b)Fill in the calculator command randInt( c)Clear your calculator, seed to 5, and run 3 trials

Homework Check – pg 14 Number of Different Mystery Flavors Frequency 30 45 54 61 1.The spinner would need four equal sections. Designate one section to represent spades and the remaining three sections will represent the remaining three suits. Each time you spin, it will simulate choosing one card. 5a. Use the random number generator on the calculator. randInt(1,6, 8) b. Each number represents a different mystery flavor. c. They are simulating the purchase of eight packages of gum. d. e. 4/10 = 0.4 f. 5/10 = 0.5

Day 7: More Simulations Unit 1: Statistics

Today’s Objectives Students will continue working with and investigating simulations.

Group Work Each group will get 1 simulation example. As a group, read the situation and design a simulation. On the easel paper show the following: - assign numeric values to the outcomes - show your calculator parameters randInt( - write out the 10 trials - use the trials to answer the question

Homework – pg Explain how you would set up a simulation for the following, and then run the simulation. Use at least 20 trials. 1. Let’s assume that the football team scores a touchdown on 25% of all possessions and they kick a field goal on 20% of all possessions. What’s the probability that if you gain possession of the ball 4 times, that you make a touchdown and a field goal? 2. You are about to take the road test for your driver’s license. You hear that only 34% of candidates pass the test the first time. Estimate whether you would have to retest in order to get your license.
