3 Virginia is near Washington, D.C. and is within 300 miles of New York City. Approximately 40% of the U.S. population falls within a one-day drive. Its transportation infrastructure includes two of the nation's largest railroads and The Port of Virginia, which provide easy access to domestic and global markets. Virginia has more than 70 companies with annual revenues over $1 billion and more than 700 internationally owned businesses. Thirty two (32) Fortune 1000 and twenty three (23) Fortune 500 companies are headquartered in the state.
