2 The Glaciers melted→ first agrarian societies were established from 10 000 BC → a huge impact on the European history Until this day Europe has experienced three revolutions 1)Agrarian revolution 2)Industrial revolution ( 18th c…) 3)Technological revolution ( after WWII)

3 Different interpretations dealing with the question; Why did people accept the agrarian revolution? Change of the climate? The rise of population? Agriculture was brought to Europe by tribes from the East; input from outside? * first agrarian societies; Middle East: Eufrat and Tigris –riverside, Egypt-Nile, Indus-India, Yellow River-China

4 Nature of Agrarian revolution People settled down in the plains to become farmers - they began to till the soil and sow seeds; needed more effective tools →→the improvement of tool-making, polishing of stone-axes - cut down the forests and turned them into fields -people started to master the nature

5 Burned trees; ashes were used as fertilizers Tilled the soil with the swing-plough, reaped grain with a sickle, threshed it and stored it Storage made the society more independent, surpluses were exchanged: trade! Established organized societies; division of labour→ difference between the rich and the poor, the more you owned the more you had influence on the society ( a Class society)

6 Real houses→ villages, towns, states The use of wheel and wagon The use of metals: copper and tin were mixed to produce bronze the development of high civilizations :Art, writing, religion, science were appreciated ( and created..) To what extent is it fair to say that the agrarian societies shared a common culture? pp. 36-37

7 European point of view Minoan culture ( 2000-1500 BC) Mycenaen culture (1600-1100 BC) Make mind maps dealing with these cultures and compare/ contrast..
