2 Basic Rules: Works Cited List in alphabetical order by author’s last name. If no author, use book/article title. If title starts with A, An, The, ignore it, alphabetize by the 2 nd word. Underline the title of books, magazines, etc. Use quotes (“ ”) for article titles. Format each entry with a hanging indent. (First line is flush with margin, subsequent lines are indented.)

3 Format: Works Cited Lastname, Firstname. Book Title. Where published: by whom, when published. Smith, Jane. Can Apes Go To Gallaudet? Washington DC: Gallaudet Press, 1991. Lastname, Firstname. “Article Title.” Book/Magazine Title date published: page(s). Smith, Jane. “Can Apes Go To Gallaudet?” Gallaudet Today Spring 1992: 25-28.

7 Basic Rules: In-text Citation Credit must be given! For both direct quotes and/or paraphrasing. Cite author’s last name and page number in parenthesis ( ) immediately after the quote/paraphrase is used. Note: no comma is used. If your quote is 40 or more words, indent (10 spaces) on a new separate line for the quote. At the end, cite accordingly, without the period.
