Footsteps of Wisdom Our Prayer for You We pray that you will receive these prayers in the graciousness with which they are sent. Red Cloud Indian School Pine ridge, South Dakota 57770

To educate the heart as well as the mind is our sacred trust. Red Cloud Indian School sees itself as educators of the young men and women as educators of the young men and women who will become the leaders of tomorrow in the service of others and their community.

Prayer for Generosity Lord Jesus, teach me to be generous; Teach me to serve You as You deserve, to give and not to count the cost, to fight and not to heed the wounds, to toil and nor to seek for rest, to labor and not to seek reward, except that of knowing that I do Your will. St. Ignatius of Loyola

Where Life Never Ends Never-ending dream where life never ends where people live in perfect harmony where color is not wrong where we can walk and sing without laughter of putdowns where someone greets you with words of joy where loneliness and inequality become a speck of dirt in the winds of the past But reality must come first. Jeff White Bear Claws Red Cloud Class of 1990

Peace Prayer Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace; Where there is hatred, let me sow love; Where there is injury, pardon; Where there is doubt, faith; Where there is despair, hope; Where there is darkness, light; Where there is sadness, joy. Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled, as to console; to be understood, as to understand; to be loved, as to love; for it is in giving that we receive, it is in pardoning that we are pardoned, it is in dying that we are born to eternal live. St Francis of Assisi

God’s Garden Lord, make me your forest, filled with strong, healthy trees to give a home to the birds in the winter time. Let me be a stream of fresh water so all creatures can drink, and let me be cooling shade to refresh the earth in the heat of summer. Tanya Clifford Red Cloud Class of 1992

An Indian Prayer O’ Great Spirit, Whose voice I hear in the winds; And whose breath gives life to all the world, hear me! I am small and weak; I need your strength and wisdom. Make My Hands respect the things you have made and my ears sharp to hear your voice. Make Me Wise so that I may understand the things you have taught my people. Let Me Learn the lessons you have hidden in every leaf and rock. I Seek Strength, not to be greater than my brother, but to fight my greatest enemy-myself. Make Me Always Ready to come to you with clean hands and straight eyes. So When Life Fades, as the fading sunset, my spirit may come to you without shame.

Bless Us God, please bless us with a need to respect ourselves and others. Bless us with forgiveness that we may forgive others who do wrong against us, or those whom we hurt in any way. Bless us with the power of love in all we do, in all we say. Bless us that we may gain a better education, a better understanding of what we are learning. Bless us with honesty, understanding and compassion that we may be honest with others and ourselves. Bless us with all these things. To you we are thankful. 9 Psalm 23 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. In verdant past6ures he gives me repose; Beside restful waters he leads me; he refreshes my soul. He guides me in right paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk in the dark valley I fear no evil: for you are at my side With your rod and staff that give me courage. You spread the table before me in the sight of my foes; You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Only goodness and kindness follow me all the days of my life; And I shall dwell in the house of the Lord for years to come.

Prayer of the Polar Bear Now I lay me down to hibernate, and, Lord, I thank you for my nice, thick, warm fur, and for making me a champion swimmer! (No-one, to the best of my knowledge, has ever seen such a swimmer in Bear History.) Without my great sense of smell, I could not protect myself or the other Polaris. But, Lord, why did you give me such poor vision? I could sure use them to hunt better. But, oh! Dear Lord, you are to kind! And thank you for believing in bears. Amen, and God Bless! Lisa Bear Runner Red Cloud Class of 1990
