Are Microorganisms Essential to Radish Growth? Essential Question: How is data used in science? Samantha Negron Emily O'Neill Shamar Johnson October 17, 2008

Background Information  Scientific Name: Radaphanus sativus  Origin of Vegetable: The radish came from Egypt and Greece, and a different species of radish came from China.

Background information continued: caring for radishes  Germination: 3-10 days  Harvest: 20-30 days  Sunlight: partial shade/full sunlight  Water: keep soil uniformly moist.

Independent Variable Soil Type – Baked and non-baked soil Soil Type – Baked and non-baked soil

Dependant Variable  Height of each radish plant

Hypothesis We hypothesize that the radishes will grow better in non-baked soil.

Essential Question Scientists use data to help them determine the results of their experiments. They collect data, analyze it, and they can conclude whether or not their hypothesis was correct. Scientists also collect data on their experiment when they research their topic.

How we used data We used data in our experiment when we looked up how to care for our plant. We also collected data when we measured our plants. We compared our data for each plant to determine the results of our experiment and to conclude that our hypothesis was incorrect. How we used data in this experiment
