1 “Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.” Matthew 6:11-12

2 “Give us this day our daily bread.” Jesus wants us to make petitions for the necessities of life (cf. Isaiah 38:17-19) We are to focus on daily needs. (Luke 11:3; Exodus 16) It is necessary to pray for necessities! (Matthew 6:8; 25-33; Daniel 4:30) Thanksgiving must follow (1 Thess. 5:19; John 6:11; Matthew 15:36; 1 Tim. 4:4-5)

3 “And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors” The debt is sin. (Luke 11:4; Romans 14:12) The measure we use to forgive others is the same measure that will be used to forgive us. (Matthew 6:14-15; Psalm 18:25; James 2:12- 13; Mark 11:25-26; Matthew 18:23-35)

4 “And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors” You are never closer to God’s grace than when you confess your sins and go to Him for pardon. You are never more like Jesus than when you forgive those who have sinned against you. You will never know the joy of being in Christ until you experience God’s forgiveness.
