4. 13-Jul-07WG Core variables in social surveys Name of the presentation Background Conclusion of the Strategic Development Group (July 2008): Consistency of implementation at EU and national levels Parallel approaches: by sector (discussion on a survey-by-survey basis in the working groups) and by variable (checking and consistent introduction of variables, one after the other). Appropriate coordination at Eurostat and at Member State level (national coordinator for the implementation of the core variables) Monitoring over the time by the Directors of Social Statistics (DSS) Approach by stages (set of variables at a time) to be favoured. The priorities regarding which variables to implement have still to be decided.

6. 13-Jul-07WG Core variables in social surveys Name of the presentation Organisation within Eurostat Coordination and support for each core variable by the sector in the Directorate having responsibility for the topic i.e. educational level by the education unit, self-declared labour status by the labour market unit etc. First priority: to have a core variable fully implemented in one survey. A decision is taken on which instrument is to be used as a reference. (by each responsible sector of the Directorate) Extension to other surveys by consultation of the sector responsible for the topic  Examples: ISCO workshop (Nov 2008), Education attainment (Task Force Education variables, on-going)
