The Book of Job and the Problem of Evil

The Poem: The Curse Let the day perish in which I was born/ and the night that forced me from the womb…

The Poem: You Have Turned Against Me. Does honest speech offend you?/ Are you shocked by what I have said?/ Do you want to disprove my passion/ or argue away my despair?

The Poem: Blames God He does not care; so I say/ he murders both the pure and the wicked./ When the plague brings sudden death,/ he laughs at the anguish of the innocent.

The Poem: If Only God Would Hear Me Oh if only God would hear me,/state his case against me,/ let me read his indictment./ I will prove that I am innocent!

The Poem: The Voice from the Whirlwind Who is this whose ignorant words/ smear my design with darkness?/Stand up now like a man;/ I will question you: please instruct me.

The Poem: Awe I am speechless: what can I answer?/ I put my hand on my mouth./ I have said too much already; now I will speak no more.

The Poem: Breakthrough I have spoken of the unspeakable/and tried to grasp the infinite./I had heard of you with my ears;/ but now my eyes have seen you./Therefore I will be quiet, comforted that I am dust.
