21-07-0211-00-0000 802.11k – Radio Resource Measurement Measurements provided for runtime adjustment of radios Close to going to Sponsor Ballot 802.11mb – New Maintenance group (compilation of all approved amendments) IEEE Std. 802.11-2007 approved by SASB March 8, 2007 New 802.11mb Maintenance Task Group was started in March 2007 meeting 802.11r – Fast BSS Transition Between BSSes within the same ESS; relies on 802.11k (especially neighbor reports) More notes below 802.11u – Interworking with External Networks MAC changes to accommodate, among others, 802.21 Relies on 802.11k and 802.11r; has scope agreement with 802.11v More notes below 802.11v – Wireless Network Management Management protocol additions; AP-AP negotiations; load balancing; access controls New Chair: Dorothy Stanley; Draft 0.13 after this meeting; will attempt to go to LB after July 802.11w – Protecting Management Frames Security for management frames, including broadcast frames; relies on 11k, 11r and 11u Still in comment resolution; will not complete these in the May meeting New DLS SG : more notes below QoS Extended Services SG : tomorrow 802.11 WG may forward PAR to EC Video Transport Streaming SG : additions to support video : beginning discussion stages Very High Throughput SG : 1Gbps successor to 802.11n : beginning discussion stages 802.11 Groups Related to 802.21 (more than the usual suspects)

21-07-0211-00-0000 802.11 WG News New E911 Ad-Hoc Committee Stuart Kerry, 802.11 Chair, appointed Stephen McCann to Chair New document system created by IEEE 802wirelessworld will cease operation next Tuesday midnight (ET) New system will begin operation next Thursday midnight (ET) See document 11-07-0767-00-0000 New liaison to Bluetooth Sig Stuart Kerry appointed John Barr as liaison John is also Chairman of the Board of Bluetooth Sig Sig has over 3000 members Have shipped over 1B products; 13M/week now; 2B/year by 2010 See presentation 11-07-0747-00-0000 Wi-Fi Alliance interaction Presentation by Andrew Myles, Chair of WFA WFA certified products: 300M so far; 1B total by 2012 Appeal for more interaction between WFA and 802.11 See presentation 11-07-0764-00-0000

21-07-0211-00-0000 New DLS Study Group Proposed Task Group DLS: Direct Link Setup Direct communications between two non-AP STAs Problem with Current DLS Definition Must be set up by communications with the AP, so requires explicit AP support Not many APs today have this capability Desire is for a DLS that can be set up between STAs without a special AP In addition, current DLS definition does not support Power Save Proposals A couple of groups have clear ideas (and trials) of how to accomplish this –11-07-0478-00-0000-ndls.ppt –11-06-1566-01-0wng-flexwifi-distributed-dls.ppt PAR and 5C 11-07-0225-02-0000-draft-par-and-5-criteria-dls-sg.doc 802.11 WG voted in March to send this to 802 ExCom to create TG But ExCom needed 30 day notice Expect ExCom to approve this in July, forward it to NesCom, and TG to meet first in September May 2007 Continuing listening to conceptual proposals But no technical text yet proposed for the amendment

21-07-0211-00-0000 QoS Extended Services Study Group New Proposed Task Group: to “harmonize” 802.11e with WMM WMM: Wireless Multimedia Specification Defined by the Wi-Fi Alliance Mostly a subset of 802.11 However, many details different from 802.11 The WFA has certified products *only* to WMM, not 802.11e WFA members have shipped 50-100M products with WMM Problem: current WFA-certified products do not match IEEE 802.11-2007 Some feel that 802.11e should be rewritten to match current products Others feel that 802.11e has features that are required in the future Major debate: possibly invalidating products built to 802.11e Study Group today inserted strict rule in PAR Scope Preventing conflict with 802.11e Brings up problem of what the new TG can actually do to “harmonize” Proposed PAR and 5C 11-07-0029-05-0wng-proposal-harmonization-802-11e-and-wmm.doc Will come to 802.11 WG vote tomorrow morning

21-07-0211-00-0000 802.11r Letter Ballot Status Latest re-circulation ballot comments completed Finished all comments this week Complete comment resolutions: 11-07-0498-17-000r-d5-comments.xls Current Draft 6.0 was available this morning Decided on “final” recirculation 15-day, so will be complete in June Goal is to see whether any new No votes and new comments IF no major new issues, then will go to Sponsor Ballot Likely going to Sponsor Ballot in July 2007

21-07-0211-00-0000 802.11u Highlights (Quick Summary, since 802.21 has great interaction with 11u) Ad-Hoc with 802.21 : 11-15 June Group in favor of meeting, only 5-1/2 would commit to show up Alternative proposal: Fri-Sun before July meeting won Proposal to 802.21: is interested in a second ad-hoc with 11u? Remaining 11-21 issues on primitives Primarily general binary format Timeline Outline in TGu timeline document But new 07/xxxx document number will be created Voted to authorize Draft 0.06 to become Draft 1.0 Voted to go to Letter Ballot But must be approved by 802.11 WG tomorrow Liaison Letter to IETF EAP Method Update WG EAP Method for Emergency Calls Document 11-07-0811-01-000u-ietf-eap-emergency-call-liaison.doc
