4. Demise of Canadian Prairies ● Suffered not only from trade wars but from drought, deprivation, and plagues of grasshoppers ● 1 in 12 people had left region for good ● Much of province of Saskatchewan reduced to wasteland ravaged by natural disasters

5. No Government Intervention ● Main difference between Canada and North America’s reaction to depression ● Short-lived attempt from prime minister R.B. Bennett to copy Roosevelt’s New Deal ● Struck down by Privy Council in London, which was Canada’s ultimate Supreme Court
