2. f 2P5 visit to Fermilab Strategies to support and sustain Run II Computing Computing Division FTEs dedicated to Run II Computing will be held constant through FY08 and increase by 2 FTEs in FY09. –2 Application Physicists hired in FY07 explicitly for Computing Operations –Scientist leadership expected to remain in place through FY09 –Continuing Guest Scientist and visitor positions Increased use of shared scientific services (common across Run II, CMS, MINOS, others) –This has been a fairly successful strategy for the past 3+ years Use of Grid resources for computing –All computational resources at Fermilab are part of FermiGrid and are thus available for sharing in times of low use by the primary customer –Being Grid-enabled allows for opportunistic use of computing resources world-wide and will facilitate large Run II special processing efforts if scientifically justified D0 recently finished a reprocessing of their early Run II data heavily using the Open Science Grid

3. f June 8, 20073P5 visit to Fermilab More strategies to support and sustain Run II Computing Experiments and Computing Division (CD) together are undertaking campaigns to improve automation and operational efficiency –Starting now to use project management tools and CD Project Management office to facilitate this –Will draw on resources from across the CD (including those primarily focused on the future programs) for specific well- defined tasks (during CY 07) Computing Division is undertaking greater “ownership” and responsibility for the tools and applications necessary for MC and data processing –Want to ensure all codes and database applications are inventoried and captured for long-term support
