Where are we…  Regionally, “on track” for MDG-6 (only a few countries are progressing slowly or show no progress)  The epidemic is stabilizing with declining new infections; 20% reduction between 2001 and 2010  Over one million people are receiving antiretroviral treatment However…  HIV epidemics vary significantly between and within countries; remain concentrated among key populations  Progress among sex workers but hotspots of high prevalence continue  Large proportions of people who use drugs becoming infected  Epidemic among men who have sex with men is growing – particularly in cities  Prevention programme reach to key populations still low  Only 39% of people eligible for antiretroviral treatment are receiving it

3. Where do we need to be by 2015? 2000 Millennium Declaration MDG Goals and Targets 2006 Political Declaration Universal Access Goals 2011 Political Declaration Targets and commitments towards “Getting to Zero” + ESCAP Resolutions Have halted HIV by 2015 and achieved universal access

Old and new: targets and commitments…  Reduce sexual transmission of HIV by 50%  Reduce transmission of HIV among people who inject drugs by 50%  Eliminate new HIV infections among children  Universal access to antiretroviral therapy (15 million people on ART)  Reduce TB deaths among people living with HIV by 50%  Close the resource gap and strengthen HIV integration  Eliminate gender inequalities, stigma and discrimination, and travel restrictions What does that mean for Asia-Pacific?  140 000 fewer infections through sexual transmission  32 000 fewer infections among people who inject drugs  23 000 fewer infections among children  1.5 million increase in people living with HIV treated with ART  35 000 fewer TB deaths among people living with HIV
