3. 06 (Leader) & 008 (Fixed field)  Code Leader "g" for "Visual Materials."  Note: Connexion only shows "Visual Materials" in the dropdown menu at the top lefthand corner.  008...  If content same as original motion picture & with minor additions/changes, code 008/06 (DtSt) "p"  Date 1 = date in 260  Date 2 = date of original motion picture (in 500)  If content changed (e.g., closed-captioning, director's cut, many special features), code 008/06 "s"

5. 041 Language code  DVDs often contain multiple types of language information.  Catalogue for dubbing, captioning and subtitles.  Field 041 is used together with field 546, where language notes are recorded in free text.  Ex. A Chinese language film with English dubbing, and English and Korean subtitles.  Lang: chi  041 1 $a chi $a eng $j eng $j kor $h chi  546 $a Chinese or English soundtracks with English or Korean subtitles.

6. 245 Title and statement of responsibility  Transcribe from chief source of information.  Limit to those credited as having a major role in creating the film.  Writer, director, producer etc.  The GMD for DVDs is “videorecording.”  $a Kung Fu Hustle $h [videorecording]

7. 250 Edition area  Used to distinguish between multiple versions of a film.  Widescreen, standard, extended etc.  250 $a Widescreen ed.  If there is no edition statement available, cataloger may supply one in square brackets to differentiate one version from another.  250 $a [Widescreen ed.]

8. 260 Publication information  Can include multiple entries here, one for the production and (optional) another for the distribution company.  Record each in a separate subfield b, and trace in a 710 tag.  Depending on the vendor, date information may not be readily available on the item.  If so, check for latest date printed on material. Record assumed date in brackets without copyright symbol.

9. 300 Physical description ($a)  Use specific material designation (SMD) “videodisc”; optionally, use “DVD-video” instead. Record in subfield a:  300 ## $a 1 videodisc  300 ## $a 1 DVD-video  Record playing time of title proper in parentheses after SMD. If stated on item or readily ascertainable:  300 ## $a 1 DVD-video (55 min.)  300 ## $a 1 videodisc (1 hr., 23 min.)  300 ## $a 2 videodiscs (165 min.)  300 ## $a 1 DVD-video (55,024 fr.)  Optionally, approximate time if not stated or readily ascertainable:  300 ## $a 1 DVD-video (ca. 60 min.)

10. 300 Physical description ($b & $c)  In $b, briefly describe in the following order:  sound characteristics  “si.” (silent), “sd.” (sound), or “si. at sd. speed”  Color  “col.” or “b&w” (or statement to indicate both)  In $c, give diameter of DVD in inches (usually 4 ¾ in.)  Examples:  300 ## $a 1 DVD-video (55 min.) : $b sd., col. ; $c 4 ¾ in.  300 ## $a 1 videodisc (1 hr., 23 min.) : $b si., b&w ; $c 4 ¾ in.  300 ## $a 1 videodisc (62 min.) : $b sd., col. with b&w sequences ; $c 4 ¾ in.

11. 490 Series Area  Transcribe as appears on item.  1st indicator “1” if traced as added entry in 8xx (check authority file for series title):  490 1# $a John Wayne collection  830 #0 $a John Wayne collection.  830 has no 1st indicator and a 2nd indicator “0”  830 ends in a full stop; 490 does NOT.  1st indicator “0” if NOT traced in 8xx:  490 0# $a Glamour collection  Remember—440 is obsolete!440 is obsolete

12. A note about 5xx notes  List in order given in 7.7B, even though MARC tag #s may not be in numerical order. 538 ## $a DVD; Dolby digital 5.1 surround; DTS 5.1 surround; region 1. 13. 538 System requirements  Follow AACR2 7.7B & give this note 1 st due to its primary importance.  Record the television system format  538 ## $a NTSC.  Aspect ratio can be included.  538 ## $a DVD; Dolby surround stereo; aspect ratio 2.40:1.

14. 546 Language  Languages are described in the 546 field and coded in 041 field.  List details about languages available, subtitles, closed- captioning, etc. in this field (often found on the DVD container).  546 ## $a English or French dialogue; French subtitles; English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.  546 ## $a In English with optional English, French, Portuguese, Spanish, Chinese, or Thai subtitles.  546 ## $a Closed-captioned.

15. 500 Notes  See AACR2 7.7B for a comprehensive list of notes.  Repeat this field as needed.  Common notes are:  Original release/production date  500 ## $a Originally released as a motion picture in 2009.  Special features  500 ## $a Special features: Bloopers; filmmakers' commentary.  History- or edition-related:  500 ## $a Based on the novel by Jane Austen.

16. 520 Summary  Give a brief, objective summary.  520 ## $a An 18th century knight avenges the deaths of two friends who have attended a hunting party at the castle of a sadistic Viennese count.  If from another source, enclose in quotes and cite source.  520 ## $a "Max Davidson (1875-1950) is one of the numerous forgotten Hollywood supporting actors who acted in innumerable movies.
