1 What is up Today Do Now: Explain Germany’s situation at the end of WW1. What was decided? How do you think some Germans felt about how the war ended? 75 Words Germany Post WW1 powerpoint Germany questions

2 Germany After WWI How did the conditions after World War I help lead to World War II?

3 Snapshot: Germany after World War I Remember, because of the Versailles Treaty: – Germany was forced to accept “war guilt” – Germany’s army and general military might was greatly reduced – Germany was forced to pay $33 billion dollars in reparations – Germany lost land and the map of Europe was redrawn Weimar Republic – The new government that took power right before the end of the war – Had to overcome the obstacles of the Versailles Treaty and the discontent of the people because they stopped fighting WWI ( just “gave up” while the people thought they were winning)

4 Hyperinflation in Germany Inflation: the rate (speed) at which the price of goods (stuff) is rising Hyperinflation: when inflation happens very quickly As a result of the hyperinflation – People would get home with money that was no longer worth what it was when they left wok – Workers demanded higher wages to keep up with the higher prices – Leaders were assassinated and there were riots in the streets – Many blamed bankers and businessmen, who were often Jewish, of having a conspiracy because they didn’t understand what could have caused this
