1 No warm-up; instead, get out your textbooks and turn to page 486.

2  Turn in homework/classwork from last yesterday.  I need H.A. grade checks from: Katie U., Desiree, Jordan and Iris G.  Portfolio appeals are due today.  Period 4: warm-ups are due after class  Bring Patience with Patients items (period 4) or Pets R us items (period 3)– extra credit points!!!  Study for your final exam!  make sure that you at least have all of terms defined and examples of each term; if you need help, you can ask BEFORE the final.

3 STANDARDS Reading 3.4: Analyze the ways in which poets use imagery… and sounds to evoke readers’ emotions.

4 Warm-up: Get out your textbook and turn to page 466. Find one phrase (2-6 words in length) that presents imagery or strong diction and that you feel communicates a very strong mood in this poem. Write it down and explain how it creates a certain mood.

5 Open your textbook to page 486. Volunteers to read:  Why it Matters  Religious Traditions  A Mountainous Terrain  The Way of the Warrior  The Influence of China  An Island Culture

6 Now turn to pages 496-497. Let’s read “Connect to Today ”

7 HOMEWORK: Read the following about Ancient Japan…  Historical Highlights (pg. 488-89)  People and Society (pg. 490-91)  Culture (492-93) TAKE NOTES and save the notes in your notebook.
