2 2 Learning outcomes You will understand key aspects of implementing the DDA, including: ● learning and teaching implications of the DDA for pupils with SEN and/or disabilities ● appropriate ICT resources to support the learning of pupils with SEN and/or disabilities ● administration of medicines ● planning and going on an educational visit, and ● sharing information and keeping records.

3 3 Learning outcome You will explore key aspects of the DfES/Department of Health guidance on working with pupils with medical needs and guidance on educational visits. Activity 1

4 Key points ● All visits should be pre-planned, including appropriate risk assessment and exploratory visits to venues in most cases ● Everyone managing the visit, including volunteers and parents/carers, needs to understand appropriate practice and procedure ● All relevant staff at a place visited should be aware of the individual needs of pupils ● Err on the side of caution. 4

5 5 Activity 2 Learning outcomes You will understand: ● practical issues for pupils with SEN and/or disabilities, and ● potential for teaching and learning presented by educational visits.

6 Key points from the film clips ● Possibilities for social and academic learning ● Importance of all adults’ positive commitment to making reasonable adjustments and removing barriers ● Parents, carers and education staff all learning that pupils can achieve beyond expectations when planning to remove barriers is appropriate and timely ● Improvement of self-image and confidence when pupils from groups vulnerable to exclusion succeed in activities. 6

7 7 Learning outcome You will understand the duty to, and value of consulting disabled pupils and adults wherever possible. Activity 3

8 Eleni Burgess’ survey ● Eleni Burgess, a young wheelchair user, surveyed the views of 100 wheelchair users in schools ● The survey received national attention and provided many valuable insights. 8

9 9 Activity 4 Learning outcome You will have a basic understanding of the potential of ICT to remove barriers for pupils with SEN and/or disabilities.

10 10 Activity 5 Learning outcomes You will: ● reflect on key learning points from the sessions, and ● identify the next steps in your own learning.
